What I liked

I really liked the fact that I had the freedom to share my experiences of college with high-school students in China. I was also able to use my current knowledge from college to teach a zoom seminar on mental health in a college environment which was interesting to most students specifically from Asia.

What I wish was different

I simply wish I had more time during the internship as well as I wish I had been able to get involved a little more. There was a strict limit to the amount of projects and work that needed to be done based off of the hours each intern received.

Advice

One piece of advice is to take full advantage of the freedom given to you and fully immerse yourself in teaching other students the nuances of the college research process. I personally got so many students interesting in the seven sister colleges and this made me very happy!

What I liked

- Great company culture: I loved working with bright and passionate point persons on various projects, hearing about their experiences/interests/why they were at ESC, and learning from them. - Meaningful student work: ESC students are incredibly talented and wonderful to work with. I liked how each student I worked with challenged me in a different way (I helped some on independent projects, gave insider perspective as to U.S. colleges, and encouraged interest development through critical thinking), and I could feel the impact my sessions with them had.

What I wish was different

- I wish I had had fewer overtime hours. Student schedules in the summer require flexibility for meetings, but even though I had some extra hours I enjoyed the work I was doing. - I found some of my most enjoyable projects turned out to be ones that came up later or ones that people thought I would be good fit to work on, so I wish I had been more proactive in the first month about hopping on projects that looked interesting in addition to the ones I was already working on.

Advice

- Don't be afraid to interact with the full-time employees both inside and outside the office! They're all really friendly, fun to talk to, and have lots of wisdom to offer!

What I liked

Amazing company culture-- everyone was open and friendly, and there was no strict hierarchy. Employees are given space to arrange their own schedules, lots of flexibility.

What I wish was different

I wish I had been quicker to take advantage of the flexibility this company offered and been more proactive in seeking out/proposing projects I wanted to work on from the beginning.

Advice

Don't be afraid to communicate your needs or propose ideas!

What I liked

I liked the variety of the work, the amount of responsibility I was given, and the control that I had over my own schedule and the projects that I was working on.

What I wish was different

I wish that the air conditioning wasn't broken so often!

Advice

I would advise future summer consultants at ESC to be proactive about creating and executing their own projects. Each employee has a unique perspective, and ESC is very open to self-designed projects, project proposals from interns, etc. If you have an idea, don't hesitate to voice it!
