Alumni-in-Residence: Sign Up for Office Hours with Tess Banta '16

The Loeb Center's Alumni-in-Residence program is excited to offer 20-minute, 1-on-1, informational office hour appointments with Tess Banta '16.

Are you interested in pursuing a career within the realm of publishing or another creative field? Meet Tess Banta!

Since 2021, Tess has been an integrated freelance editor at First Second, an imprint of Macmillan Publishers, where she provides writers and artists with crucial editorial feedback and art direction in the creation of comic books for kids, teens, and adults. Prior to her role at First Second, Tess was a member of the Acquisitions & Development team at LAIKA, a renowned stop-motion animation studio (Coraline), where she helped to select and launch new projects.

At Amherst College, Tess pursued a diverse academic path, majoring in Art & the History of Art and Law, Jurisprudence, and Social Thought—a combination that enriched her understanding of storytelling and visual aesthetics. Her eclectic background, and passions for writing, drawing, and media analysis, have shaped her perspective as an editor and creative collaborator.
