Houston Internship Program Funding Application 2021

Through the generous donations from Amherst College Alumni, the Loeb Center for Career Exploration and Planning is able to offer students enrolled in the Charles Hamilton Houston Internship Program the opportunity to request funding for unpaid or low-paying (less than $4,500) internships secured outside of the program.

This funding is not guaranteed. Students must submit an application to be considered by a review committee for funding. Award amounts are determined by the duration of the internship and whether or not a student will be living at home over the summer. Additionally, any form of compensation received from an internship host (i.e. small stipend, transportation, housing, etc.) is taken into consideration when calculating award amounts. The maximum award amount is $4,500.

In order to apply for this funding, your internship must:

  • Be at least 6 weeks long AND offer at least 30 hours of work each week
  • Have an individual identified as a supervisor who is available to answer the intern’s questions and provide regular performance feedback
  • Allow the intern to spend the majority of scheduled work hours completing assignments that are substantive and meaningful to the organization
  • Offer assignments that are appropriately challenging for a college student
  • Align with the intern’s stated career path
  • Provide opportunities for the intern to develop skills that will be marketable for future internships or jobs in the same career field or another
  • Fall within one of the categories listed on this page: List of Eligible Organizations

Additionally, you must also be:

  • Enrolled in the Charles Hamilton Houston Internship Program
  • A first-year, sophomore, junior, or senior who will be graduating in December 2021
  • Enrolled at the College during both the semesters prior to and after their summer internships. Students who are studying abroad are eligible to participate in the program

Applications must be submitted by one of the following deadlines to be considered:
