Alumni-in-Residence: Sign Up for Office Hours with Lou Silverman '81, CEO and Chairman of Advanced ICU Care, Inc.

Lou Silverman '81 will return to campus as part of the Loeb Center's Alumni-in-Residence program. He will hold limited office hours appointments with current students interested in hearing how, as an American Studies major, he became an overnight success, several years in the making.

Lou is eager to talk to students interested in healthcare, innovation, entrepreneurship, and the overall skills needed to be CEO and chairman of a variety of company boards. These 20-minute appointments are available on a first-come, first served basis and present an informal opportunity to converse with this alumnus and gain advice about navigating your career path post-Amherst.

Lou graduated in 1981 as an American Studies major. He navigated a common early starting point to his business career -- beginning as a consultant for a small firm before going to get his MBA at Harvard Business School. He then began working in the corporate world, climbing the leadership ladder through operations and becoming COO and then President and CEO of several companies. He found a passion for healthcare and creating an innovative corporate environment to meet the changing needs of the healthcare industry. He is currently CEO and Chairman of the Board for Advanced ICU Care, Inc where he has grown the company with a 15% CAGR per annum during his tenure, employs 265 professionals, and is contracted with ~95 hospitals in 26 states. He is also on various outside boards, including STAAR Surgical, Inc, Lincor, Patient Pay, and Cove Fund.

Lou was a founding director of Community Roots Academy (a 600-student K-8 charter school) and has received numerous nominations for Entrepreneur of the Year and Innovator of the Year by Erst & Young and the Orange County Business Journal. He is eager to help students explore and find their inner traits to not only innovate but also be successful in every endeavor.

To book appointments instantly, students must submit a Loeb Center-approved resume. (Learn about this approval process here.) To book without an approved resume, please upload / submit your pending document, then e-mail careers@amherst.edu with your availability.
